Tons of Fun at the San Diego Zoo

We went to CA over spring break, and had a great visit to the San Diego Zoo! That place is so beautiful, and the weather was wonderful.
I have to apologize for this first picture, but it was really a once in a lifetime event. What you are seeing is a photo of two giant hippos. It is springtime. They are in love. You get the drift. You really haven't experienced nature until you've seen two hippos in the mood. My mom and I were laughing pretty hard, especially as each new group came onto the scene and you'd hear kids say things like, "are they playing leapfrog?" or "they are doing piggybacks". Or, my personal favorite, "He sure looks relaxed."
And if you've ever been to the San Diego zoo's hippo enclosure, you know that there is a huge glass divider that shows underwater in the hippo pool. The hippos decided to have their interlude RIGHT next to the glass. Primo viewing area. They are proud of their bodies, as well they should be. I kept thinking of the scene in Madagascar II where Gloria is having her date with the other hippo, and he has a deep voice like Isaac Hayes.
AC had the best line of the day, as I texted him at work to let him know what those hippos were doing. He replied, "I bet they are having a ton of fun." tee hee. Moving on from the dance of love, the rest of the day was tons of fun. (tee hee) Grandma was shat upon by some large bird inside the aviary. It splattered everywhere, and I started gagging. Chloe then refused to go inside any more aviaries, smart girl that she is.
Ellie almost rolled down the moving sidewalk that takes lazy people up the big hill. Good thing Grandma was behind us, or Ellie would have rolled all the way down the mountain.

We also saw gorgeous flowers, fun animals and had a great time overall.

Here is a rare picture of all three being nice to each other. As rare as seeing two hippos . . . oh, never mind.

I don't know what Chloe is so excited about here. I hope the rhinos weren't behaving like those hippos. You can't take kids anywhere these days.

Field Day

Hayden and Chloe had field day last week. The weather was beautiful and the kids had a blast. They did tug-of-war, relay races, 3-legged race and an obstacle course. It was Chloe's first field day and she really had a good time. The best part of all: Chauncey had the day off of school and came with me to watch the kids. Hayden and all of his friends were beside themselves with excitement, because Chauncey is beyond cool. He even helped out with the relay and tug-of-war, to the chants of 8 year old boys. Ahh, to be adored. Chauncey shows Ellie how its done.

Aren't they cute boys?

She can't help but be graceful, even on an obstacle course.

Nekkid Girls

I don't thing there is anything cuter than two cousins in the tub.

Lotta Love

Aaron took Chloe to a local church's father daughter dance on Valentine's weekend. Chloe was so excited, and wore her new dress. Her little friend Maddie went, too, and since AC and Maddie's dad are buds as well, they all had a great time. Chloe learned the chicken dance (ACs signature move) and then taught it to Ellie. I'm so glad they had a special night together.
